First International Talent Worshop was held in 2008, as a part of 2nd Zagreb Jewish Film Festival. Since then it has become an important supporting segment of the Festival as it perfectly promotes all the values the Festval stnads for: multiculturalism, education, tolerance. Today, we can say that ITW is on the verge of becoming a brand in its own right.The first edition lasted from June 11 to June 13, 2008. Fourteen active participants and three observers were chosen to take part in the programme. This was the only edition that didn’t end up with made films since the emphasis was put on the theoretical education.

Lecturers of first ITW were renowned professional from film industry:

● Branko Lustig ● The most famous cultural ambassador of Croatia in the world and the winner of numerous awards for film production (including two Academy Awards, for the films “Schindler’s List” and “Gladiator”). Other major Hollywood“The Peacemaker”, “Hannibal”, and “Black Hawk Down”. For many years he has worked in Hollywood as an active participant of the Academy’s Commission for Oscar Nominations and Awards.

● Nenad Puhovski ●Puhovski directed a number of documentaries Dead Harbor, Borderlines of Hunger, Graham & I, Pavilion 22, Lora – Testimonies, In Quest of Sutej, Five film on Nives KK, Bucan – triptych. Puhovski founded FACTUM, an independent documentary film production company. In the following fifteen years he produced more than 60 documentaries. In 2004 Puhovski founded and became the director of ZagrebDox.

● Luke Holland ●  He runs the Independent production company ZEF Productions from Sussex, the setting for his 5-part BBC Storyville Series A Very English Village. Other documentaries include I Was a Slave Labourer , More Than a Life, The Journey of Death,  the 5-part Channel 4 Series The ‘Savage’ Strikes Back; the C4 Prix Europa and Emmy entry Good Morning Mr Hitler and Gene Hunters.

● Dr. Amir Har-Gil ● Documentary Film Director and senior lecturer at Netanya Academic College. Manager of first ITW was

● Nebojša Slijepčević ●. He directed numerous television documentaries and the award-winning episode of City Folk, produced by the EBU (European Broadcast Union). He is one of the authors of the Direct documentary series. As a creative producer, he worked on the Roma in Europe series, a co-production of a dozen of European countries .

 

. second 2nd ITW: 2009 ●

The promotion of the second edition of the Workshop was significantly more comprehensive as we contacted numerous film festivals and film schools throughout Europe. So, there was no surprise when the number of applications doubled . These applications came from five different continents. In addition to the educational part, a practical segment of the Workshop has also been introduced. As a result, ITW for the first time ended with the realization of two short films.

. ● Jochen Alexander Freydank He is a german film director whose films had been internationally recognized and won awards at various film festivals.. In 2013 he directed the feature film THE BURROW based on a novel by Franz Kafka, which he also wrote and produced.  In February, 2009, TOYLAND won the The Oscar for best live-action short film

. ● Heidrun Schleef ● studied directing at the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Rome, teaches screenwriting in Rome and worked as a tutor with the program Media Sources fund of the European Union.

●  David Polonsky ● Art director and lead artist for “Waltz with Bashir”, an animated documentary feature, official selection in the 2008 Cannes film festival. Polonsky has illustrated a number of children’s books, and won the Israel Museum award for children’s book illustration in 2004 and 2008.

●  Kayvan Mashayekh ● Mashayekh’s follow-up project, “Batting for Palestine,” was the winner of the Relativity Media Special Prize of $25,000 at the 2007 Middle East International Film Festival in Abu Dhabi. As of 2009, he is an apprentice to legendary two time Oscar winning producer, Branko Lustig (Gladiator/Schindler’s List) and is helping Lustig develop a slate of studio grade projects .

● Željko Vukmirica ● He is known for his work on Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1990),Hamburg Altona (1989) and Misolovka Walta Disneya (2003).

    itw2010  3rd ITW: 2010

The third edition of the Workshop, held from May 20 to May 29, 2010, was the first one organized with ten participants. Such a form of ITW is maintained until present day. Experience has shown that working in two groups of five participants enables an individual approach to each participant and allows them to gain maximum knowledge and experience. Besides having the opportunity to learn from ITW’s lecturers (two of whom were Academy Award winners), the participants attended a lecture of Stellan Skarsgård, a famous Swedish actor who was a guest of the Jewish Film Festival

● Florian Gallenberger   A German film director. His film Quiero ser (I want to be …) was awarded the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film in 2001 .

● Martin Brinkler ● Producer, Member of the American Cinema Editors

● Dalibor Matanić ● An acclaimed Croatian screenwriter and film director.His most well-known film is the 2002 feature Fine Dead Girls which won the Special Jury Prize at the 2003 Sochi film festival .

●  Stellan Skarsgård ●   He had the leading part in the Oscar nominatedOxen (1991) directed by the world-famous cinematographer Sven Nykvist. . His breakthrough instead came with Lars von Trier’s Breaking the Waves. After that Skarsgård got several supporting roles in American films, such as in My Son the Fanatic (1997), Gus Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting (1997) and Steven Spielberg’s Amistad (1997).

The fourth edition of the Workshop attracted a record number of applicants (83). The Workshop lasted from May 18 to May 27, 2011. The result of teamwork, commitment, persistence and innovation of 10 participants from 7 different countries were two new short fiction films.

He has received awards from various organizations including the Society of Illustrators, the Society of Publication Designers, the Art Directors Club, I.D. In its fifth edition, the Workshop remained dedicated to its mission:filling the gap between formal education and its practical application, and creating an atmosphere suitable for young talents with various cultural backgrounds to sharpen their cinematic skills in a spirit of mutual appreciation. The Workshop was held from May 17 to May 26, 2012, and it was marked by a series of excellent lectures given by esteemed experts.

. ●  Michael W. King ●

Producer, writer, and director of music videos, documentaries, and film. Mr. King is the founder of Michael King Productions LLC, and currently lives in La Quinta California with his wife and son. He is a former board member of the International Documentary Association (IDA), and a member of the Directors Guild of America (DGA).

●  Matej Mináč ●  Slovak film director. He has directed two films about Nicholas Winton, a Briton who organised the rescue of 669 Jewish children from German-occupied Czechoslovakia on the eve of World War II in an operation later known as the Czech Kindertransport: the drama All My Loved Ones (1999) and the documentary The Power of Good: Nicholas Winton (2002), which won an Emmy Award.  

● Yonatan Nir ● Fame to filmmaking from photojournalism and marine photography. His photo essays from many countries around the world have been featured in newspapers and magazines worldwide, and won numerous prizes, including the prestigious “Asian Geographic Best Photojournalist of the Decade Award”.

●  Radu Gabrea  ● He is a director and writer, known for Der geköpfte Hahn (2007), Manusi Rosii (2010) and Ein Mann wie EVA (1984)
